AIA Greenville and Nichols Architects presents design awards and check to Greenville County Animal Care
Greenville, South Carolina – AIA Greenville’s inaugural design-build competition raised $5,250 to benefit Greenville County Animal Care’s Safety Net Foster Program, which supports people in crisis who are at risk of losing their pet(s) due to a temporary hardship or unexpected emergency.
AIA Greenville, Nichols Architects, participants and sponsors gathered at Southernside Brewery to celebrate the successful conclusion of the PAWchitecture competition that raised funds through the auction of the one-of-kind dog houses and cat condos created by local architects, designers, and builders.
Organizers recognized the team comprised of Fathom Firm + The Heirloom Companies and the KEEL Concepts team for their winning designs. The other teams were A M King, Craig Gaulden Davis + Triangle Construction Co, Inc., and McMillan Pazdan Smith.
“We are proud to support Greenville County Animal Care and couldn’t be more thankful to the participants and sponsors for taking a leap of faith on this new initiative in our community,” said Catherine Knight, design leader with A M King and past president of AIA Greenville. “PAWchitecture is a wonderful project that celebrates what we all have in common – a creative spirit, a passion for great design, and a desire to help animals in need.”
Miami-based Nichols Architects, who brought the idea to Greenville after participating in PAWchitecture through the Miami Chapter of AIA, presented design awards to participants during the celebration.
“JAKE FRAME,” designed and built by Fathom Firm and Heirloom Companies, received the Greenville Gold award, which is presented as the overall winner of the PAWchitecture competition and epitomizes the best overall design, construction detailing, and showcases elements of Greenville in an innovative way.
Additionally, “OASIS,” designed and built by KEEL Concepts, was presented with the Paws in Show award, which recognizes the overall runner-up to the winner of the PAWchitecture design + build competition.
“We’ve learned through our work here that Greenville is an energetic, pet-loving community with unmistakable charm,” said Igor Reyes, principal at Nichols Architects. “We were so impressed by each of the teams’ unique designs, and I want to applaud them for the tremendous amount of creativity, innovation, and work they put in to support such a wonderful cause.”
Companies sponsoring the initiative include Alice Company, Auro Hotels, BARK: Canine Boutique, Britt Peters, MGC Law, Nichols Architects, Partners in Animal Care, Traveling Chic Boutique, and Tiger Moving.
“We are so grateful to AIA Greenville, Nichols Architects, each of the contestants, and sponsors for their dedication throughout this incredible project,” said Paula Church, community relations coordinator at Greenville County Animal Care. “The funds raised through PAWchitecture Greenville will help us further our mission to promote the compassionate treatment of animals in our community.”
